Do not Dwell On The Past

Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, Philippians 3:13.

The book of acts gives us the detailed story of Saul of Tarus, who later became known as Paul. Prior to his conversion, he desperately persecuted God’s people. However, one day, on his way to Damascus, in furtherance of his merciless onslaught   against the church, he had an encounter with the Lord “…what wilt thou have me to do?...” Acts 9:6.

That day, Lord changed his destiny and gave him a new focus. The hitherto persecutor of the church became one of the Lord’s greatest Apostles whom He charged with the responsibility to take Gospel to the Gentiles, turning them from darkness to light, and from  the power of Satan unto God, Acts 26:18. With a greater zeal than that with which he previously persecuted the church, Paul committed His life to reaching the Gospel, refusing to be deterred by his unpleasant past. He realized that “…if any man be in Christ, he is a new creation: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new” 2 Corinthians 5:17. This was his testimony; this was his victory: To hold forth the world of life with boldness, irrespective of the past. Our opening verse reveals, how he was able to deal with His past; a lesson for us all.

Paul’s testimony shows what the Lord can do in the life of anyone who receives the word, regardless of their past. The Lord Jesus can transform a man forever, and give him a new destiny; His word in you will transform your life and recreate your world by the influence of the Holy Spirit. Therefore, like the Apostle Paul, be totally committed to the Lord and His Gospel. Speak the word with boldness, and refuse to allow anything, including past experiences, daunt your zeal for revealing Christ to your world.

You are alive by the Spirit

But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you Romans 8:11. God gave birth to us by the Word, through the spirit. You’re not ordinary person if you are in Christ or if you have the new life in Christ Jesus. The human life you received from your parents has been replaced, supplanted, by the divine life of Christ. 1 Peter 1:23 says, “Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of corruptible, by the word of god, which liveth and abideth forever.”    Often, I tell people that Christianity is more than a legal document; it’s a vital experience; there’s a true life from Christ beating in your heart which is the new life in Christ Jesus. The natural man (anyone without the New Life in Christ Jesus or anyone who is not born again) lives by blood, but a Christian lives by the Spirit. No wonder Jesus, referring to the ne...

The Reign of Death is over

Nevertheless, death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over them that had not sinned after the similitude of Adam’s transgression, who is the figure of him that was to come (Romans 5:14)  Satan became the god of this earth because he got it from Adam who lost out through disobedience, resulting significantly in the reign of death. Remember, God had told Adam, “… in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die” (Genesis 2:17). He was talking about spiritual death; spiritual death is the cause of physical death. So, our theme verse says, “Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses (the Law of Moses)…”  But who had the power of death? The Bible says, “Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is the devil” (Hebrews 2:14). Satan was actually behind this reign of death. Now, here’s something exciting that I want ...

The Divinity of Jesus

“Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father; but by me. If ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also: and from henceforth ye know him, have seen him” John 14:6-7.   “Is Jesus really God?”   This is one question many still ask today. They believe He was a great prophet and teacher, but find it difficult to accept that He is Himself God, but He is. The Bible says “In the beginning was the Word, and the word was with God, and the Word was God ” John 1:1. That “Word” that the Bible says “was God” became flesh-Jesus- and dwelt among us: “And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth” John 1:14.     Now, the prophecy that came forth before the birth of Jesus also foretold His divinity: “Behold, a virgin shall be with a child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanue...
