Put Away Childish Things

“When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understanding as a child, I thought as a child: but when I become a man, I put away childish things” 1 Corinthians 13:11. From verse we just read, the Holy Spirit through the Apostle Paul explains the order of communication of the babe in Christ. First he “spoke,” ahead of understanding and thinking. The spiritually mature would rather think, before speaking.

As long as a believer remains at the babyhood level of communication, where his words are at variance with the realities of the new creation, he’ll not experience the best of his inheritance in Christ. The Bible says in Galatians 4:1, “Now I say, that the heir, as long as he is a child, differeth nothing from a servant, though he be lord of all.”  King Solomon alludes to this in Ecclesiastes 10:5-7; he calls it an error that proceeds from the ruler: “Folly is set in great dignity, and the rich sit in low place. I have seen servants upon horses, and princes walking as servants upon the earth.” How true!

As one who’s born again, you’re Abraham’s seed; therefore all of God’s blessings belong to you: “And if ye be Christ’s, then are ye Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise” Galatians 3:29. But your words must align with the Word of God. The Word of God is the wisdom of God; it’s the Language of the spiritually mature: “Howbeit we speak wisdom among them that are perfect…” 1 Corinthians2:6.

For example, when a Christian says “Oh Lord, heal me; I just caught the flu and I am so sick”; you can immediately locate him as a babe in the things of the Spirit. The spiritual mature would rather speak the wisdom of God. Rather than talk sickness, he’d speak health and life. He’d say “The same Spirit that raised up Jesus from the dead dwells in me, therefore, I cannot be sick. I’m vitalized by the power of God-spirit, soul and body!” can you see the difference?

The babe in Christ seeks to be healed; but the spiritually mature knows he cannot be sick, because he is the righteousness of God in Christ, and therefore speaks accordingly. James 3:2 AMP says “For we all often stumble and fall and offend in many things. And if anyone does not offend in speech [never says the wrong things], he is a fully developed character and a perfect man, able to control his whole body and to curb his entire nature.” Spiritual maturity is measured by your words; therefore it’s important that you grow in the Word of God unto maturity, and learn to communicate rightly.

You are alive by the Spirit

But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you Romans 8:11. God gave birth to us by the Word, through the spirit. You’re not ordinary person if you are in Christ or if you have the new life in Christ Jesus. The human life you received from your parents has been replaced, supplanted, by the divine life of Christ. 1 Peter 1:23 says, “Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of corruptible, by the word of god, which liveth and abideth forever.”    Often, I tell people that Christianity is more than a legal document; it’s a vital experience; there’s a true life from Christ beating in your heart which is the new life in Christ Jesus. The natural man (anyone without the New Life in Christ Jesus or anyone who is not born again) lives by blood, but a Christian lives by the Spirit. No wonder Jesus, referring to the ne...

The Reign of Death is over

Nevertheless, death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over them that had not sinned after the similitude of Adam’s transgression, who is the figure of him that was to come (Romans 5:14)  Satan became the god of this earth because he got it from Adam who lost out through disobedience, resulting significantly in the reign of death. Remember, God had told Adam, “… in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die” (Genesis 2:17). He was talking about spiritual death; spiritual death is the cause of physical death. So, our theme verse says, “Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses (the Law of Moses)…”  But who had the power of death? The Bible says, “Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is the devil” (Hebrews 2:14). Satan was actually behind this reign of death. Now, here’s something exciting that I want ...

The Divinity of Jesus

“Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father; but by me. If ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also: and from henceforth ye know him, have seen him” John 14:6-7.   “Is Jesus really God?”   This is one question many still ask today. They believe He was a great prophet and teacher, but find it difficult to accept that He is Himself God, but He is. The Bible says “In the beginning was the Word, and the word was with God, and the Word was God ” John 1:1. That “Word” that the Bible says “was God” became flesh-Jesus- and dwelt among us: “And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth” John 1:14.     Now, the prophecy that came forth before the birth of Jesus also foretold His divinity: “Behold, a virgin shall be with a child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanue...
